Centre Manager Maria Jenkins joined the team at Horowhenua Educare in January in 2015. Maria has had 12 years experience in teaching and completed her studies to become a qualified teacher in 2014. She has worked within a wide range of early childhood education services including Free play, Montessori, Playgroups, Kohanga Reo and also had experience in the social work sector in the Children's Health Camp services.
Maria holds both a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Diploma in Montessori teaching (Early Childhood) and is passionate about early childhood education. As Centre Manager, Maria strives to ensure the centre provides a calm, nurturing environment where all children feel safe and secure, and develop a strong sense of belonging. Maria is compassionate and dedicated, her strength is connecting with whanau and supporting their aspirations for their tamariki.

Whanau Tēina Team Leader
Team Leader Sarah Walker joined the team at Horowhenua Educare in 2015. Sarah has been working in ECE since 2014, she has a diploma in ECE and is currently completing a bachelor in ECE. Previously Sarah worked with youth at Waiopehu College for six years as a teacher aide, working with students with diverse needs. Sarah is a positive, responsive teacher that is highly skilled at catering to the diverse needs of children. Sarah is an energetic teacher who has a flair for responding to children with positivity, that affirms them as individuals and enhances their development of social competence. Sarah was born and raised in Levin and lives with her daughter and dog Fluffy.

Whanau Tuākana Team Leader
Team Leader Shireen Perera has been at Horowhenua Educare since 2014, she has a diploma in ECE and in the Montessori method of Education. She has been an Educator for the last sixteen years. Shireen has had previous experience in leadership and training in teaching adults, she utilises these skills and her knowledge to inspire her team to pursue professional excellence in all that they do. She is dedicated, professional and has a good understanding of the concepts of aroha and manaakitanga. These values underpin her interactions with all of the children in her care. She lives in Levin with her husband and has three adult children, two in laws and four beautiful grand children.
